Global Health Fellowship

The purpose of the In His Image Global Health Fellowship is to promote the healing ministry of Jesus Christ by further equipping family medicine physicians to provide broad spectrum medical and spiritual care to the underserved in an international, cross-cultural context.

The one-year post-residency fellowship will include additional training in full-scope international clinical experience, tropical medicine, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), personal spiritual development, and preparation to transition overseas. The fellowship is structured to be flexible so that each fellow can tailor their experience to best suit their specific needs as they prepare for their calling to international medical ministry.

The fellowship is divided into 7 domestic months and 5 international months providing additional didactics, spiritual development, and clinical experience. The domestic blocks will consist of rotations, one-half day weekly dedicated to spiritual development, weekly Thursday afternoon didactics (observing and monthly teaching), working two days of clinic per week with an underserved population in north Tulsa, as well as covering 14 total shifts at a nearby rural ED. There will be an opportunity to work for a mobile medical ministry or pick-up additional ED shifts for extra income.

The international blocks will be split between three to four international sites which will be chosen according to the fellows’ goals/calling. Vision trips are encouraged. Fellows may choose between an educational or clinical emphasis to meet their specific learning/career goals. Both emphases will contain similar core components; however, the education emphasis will contain additional focus on global health didactics, faculty development components, international medical education, and trainee supervision while the clinical emphasis will provide a more robust international clinical experience.

    • Obtain additional broad spectrum clinical training and global health education for physicians called to long-term overseas medical ministry

    • Mature in personal spiritual development

    • Learn to incorporate healthcare into international cross-cultural ministry

    • Determine the next steps in fulfilling call to overseas medical ministry and be fully equipped to GO

    • Complete Global Health and Spiritual Curriculum

    • Obtain CTropMed

    • Attend Global Missions Health Conference including Pre-Field Orientation

    • Teach monthly global health topics and assist with POCUS lab at resident didactics

    • Present summary of fellowship experience at IHI Summer Retreat

    • Salary is commensurate with a PGY-4 resident

    • Health, term, and life insurance are available

Domestic rotations include experience with orthopedics, HIV/TB, POCUS, dental care, wound care, and longitudinal cross-cultural ministry training.
