During your three years in residency, you will have several elective months to select your own rotations, including overseas or local medical outreach, in-town clinical experience, or an out-of-town rotation. Plus, with ten residents in your class, you will have the ability to switch rotations with your classmates as needed.
Call during your first year will average every fourth night but not on Sundays on our inpatient service. Call for second and third year residents averages twice a month plus one evening inner-city clinic at the Good Samaritan Health Services mobile medical van. We believe in balance. Though you'll work hard, our on-call schedule is designed to allow time for family, spiritual growth, exercise and recreation. Also, our attendings are in-house 24/7 during call.
We have a great mix of singles, couples, families, male spouses and female spouses. You can look forward to regular Bible studies and frequent get-togethers for fellowship and fun. In short, we believe that if we expect you to be sensitive to the needs of your patients, we must help meet the emotional and spiritual needs of you and your family.
We are a Christian program but we are not affiliated with any single denomination. Our residents and faculty attend a variety of churches: Baptist, Bible Church, Charismatic, Methodist, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, etc. We have developed our own
Statement of Faith. And like many other Christian organizations we adhere to the
Lausanne Covenant developed by 2,300 people from 150 nations.
A resident may use their five sick days for any combination of personal illness and/or maternity or paternity leave. In addition and upon request, a resident may stop residency for one month or work halftime for two months doing clinic and call with no rotational activities. With either option the resident would continue at full salary and benefits but later extend completion of residency by one month. Then during that last month of extended residency (typically July) the resident will work/study in rotational activities full-time with no clinic, no call, no salary and no employee benefits. The program will pay the malpractice insurance premium for this extra month.
Applications must be submitted to ERAS by December 1 and must include your USMLE transcript and NRMP number. The personal statement should describe your background, aspirations and why you are applying to In His Image. Also describe your relationship with Jesus Christ and mention the name and phone number of your church and pastor so we can contact them for a recommendation. We respond to applications by December 15. Also, we have additional information if you are applying as an IMG.
A typical interview day begins with a hospital tour and participation in morning rounds at St. John Medical Center. From there, you will travel to our clinic and administration site where you will participate in interviews with the executive director, program director and administrator. You will also participate in a clinic tour, and eat lunch at a local restaurant. That evening, resident hosts will take you to dinner and help to answer your questions about residency at In His Image. Our program will provide lodging for you and your spouse, if applicable, and help offset the cost of your airfare or car travel by reimbursing all or most of your cost.

We currently have a four-year ACGME accreditation (the maximum granted to any program is five).
